THE BERG #19

yall, best week EVER!!!!!!!!
i was studying a lot on Trusting God and giving my heart to him and aligning my will with His etc this week. (it helps that i was ponderizing 2 nephi 4:34that talks all about trusting god and not the arm or flesh etc). The Lord gave me an amazing opportunity this week to apply what i have been studying in real life!!

so here's the story...
Johnathan and Aaron Watson were supposed to get baptized yesterday. we had made the trek out to their boondocky house mulitple times throughout the week, got them white shirts and pants (they were donated), and had the program all made and everything...when we get a call from their mother mary sunday morning that went something like this

"oh hey Mary! how are yall doing?"
"not good sisters. you know its been raining and we are flooded in. the sheriffs came and warned us and if we leave now we probably wont be able to get back to our house and one of the bridges leading to our house has already flooded....we are so sorry but we dont think we can risk it"

noooooooooooooooo! it felt like a movie. i was standing in the rain. phone to my ear. and just got the worst news!!! but after saying a quick, but fervent prayer my mind automatically started thinking of every possible solution..we could drive out there but our little corolla would get stuck for sure...and we cant even drive them...no i do not have access to a boat...who lives out there??? so we proceeded to call everyone we know in needville and especially those that have trucks..no luck. one guy with a truck is on a cruise out of the country, the other one's truck is in the shop, etc more and more bad news.....after finding out our ward council meeting wasnt happening, we decided to pop into the spanish branch sacrament service....we just sat there praying and praying like crazy for something or someone to help or some sort of idea to come...really we were praying for a miracle!!! i realized in that moment that i was still trying to be in control. it was driving me crazy that i had done all i could do but nothing was working....i realized then that the lord was giving me an opportunity to trust him. so i kept praying and trying to have faith as the sacrament meeting went on.....just a few minutes after the service ended sister lenhart ran up to me with a HUGE smile on her face and said "you'll never believe what im about to tell you!!!!" she then informed me that a member in our ward--ben masters--came to church early that morning because he had a feeling that someone would need help getting to church that day. he owns a HUGE truck, and brought a wench and towing cables. GOD IS SOOOO GOOD!!! i literally bursted into tears when i heard of this amazing member following a prompting and my dear Father saving the day. HE had the solution. HE knew he could get the boys to church..HE was just giving me an opportunity to trust him. the boys and their parents made it safe and sound to church and were able to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized for a remission of their sins. it was truly an INCREDIBLE experience and i am sooooo thankful for my loving Heavenly Father. for his patience and love and mercy and MIRACLES!!!!!!!!!! the church is true yall. i promise!

love yall mucho

also...the ward party was a BLAST!!!! for real. love this ward family of mine!!

ok also..crazy story again. so after the ward party was over we still had about an hour so we went to try some of our investigators but every single one of them flopped. they either werent home, sick, etc. so we just pulled over and prayed to ask who needed us to visit them.,....we were getting super frustrated because anyone that came to mind after praying fell through as well!! we were just sitting there on the side of the road in the rain super bugged that we couldnt get revelation...after a solid ten minutes of feeling pretty lame..we decide to try a referral a member had given us. so we find the house and park on the side of the road. they have a HUGE driveway and yes it was raining but i didnt want sister lenhart to have to back me out the whole way...so we parked on the street. but as we are getting out of the car a guy pops out of the garage and throws his hands up. our first response is shoot. he is made and wants us off his property..but then he waves at us again and motions/points for us to pull in the driveway and park....so very confused we do so..the whole way asking each other "does this guy know us? did the member tell him we were coming? how did they know? what the?"...we get out of the car and we look at him and he looks at us with (id imagine) the same shocked and confused "i have no idea who you are" look. i ask if he is the man we are looking for and he informs us that we have the wrong house and is not the guy....he and some buddies were having a little tailgate kind of a thing and when he sees our nametags and registers that we are "jesus people" he gets a little sheepish about the beer he is drinking and the mexican music in the background...but opens up a cooler to offer us some of the shrimp/sausage/corn gumbo type dish they have prepared...he goes "we may not be doing holy things--but we'll break bread with yall...have some food!" he offered us some beer too..what a gent. haha we declined the beer..took some corn..and accepted the water he offered us. we were able to say a prayer with them and they told us we were welcome anytime! he said "you know what..maybe Jesus wanted to remind me today that he loves me.." bless his heart. they let us keep the texan mug/cup things AND held open an umbrella for sister lenhart as she backed me out. it was HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God has such a sense of humor...if nothing else we were sent to that house as a little pick-me-up! (for us and them!!) god it soooo good!

and last but not least THE BOYS!!! oh happy day!!

THE BERG #18

15 months?!

ALOOOOOOOOOOHAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! great news guys!! SISTER LENHART AND I ARE TOGETHER FOR ANOTHER TRANSFER!!! WAHOOOOO!!!!!!!! love this chica somethin awful so im stoked for round THREE!! and we have MAY too much going on to get split nowl...im glad the Lord felt the same :)
this week was chocked FULL of happy and mostly my pics will do the talking but i do have one little story to share...
on wednesday we had the blessing of going to the temple as a mission! (really feel soooo lucky for how many times ive been able to go as a missionary!!) we had to wake up at around 3am to get ready, pick up some other sisters, drive to the mission office, meet up with some more people, drive to the temple, and be changed and in our seats by 6am SHARP. but let me tell yall...it was WORTH IT!!! during the session i had been praying to have a re-confirmation that God is my father. idk why but i felt like i needed to remember again and really understand what that meant....i kept waiting for a huge lightning strike moment that would cause me to bawl from overwhelming love felt by my heavenly father...but nothing happened...nothing other than the beautiful peace and joy that i ALWAYS feel while in the Lord's house...it wasnt until i got to the celestial room, sat down and started praying that i realized that without thinking i started my prayer "my dear father...." and repeatedly throughout the prayer only referred to Him as "father"...it was then that i realized how ingrained in me the words "I am a Child of God" really are. I KNOW he is my father <3

more exciting stuff: johnathon and aaron passed their baptismal interviews and will be baptized next week!!!
we got to go to brazos bend with a family of investigators for a gorgeous picnic and bike ride! as well as talk about the plan of salvation of course...it was splendid!
i think the pictures will do a better job than my words today so ill let them do the talking...
LOVE YALL!!!!
ps ponderized alma 26:12 this week...i really am NOTHING. anything i do is permitted by God. and he is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE BERG #17

hey yall! had ourselves a pretty amazing week down here..hope yall can say the same! here are some highlights

*on our bikes on our way to an appointment (ill explain the car situation in a tic) and we were waiting on the street for our member to meet up for our lesson...a car drives past. we wave and smile. the car stops. hangs a U-y. pulls up alongside the curb. rolls down the window (and we thought we were weirdos for doing that last week! haha) he asks "so uh are you guys those umm.. umm.." "missionaries?!" "yes! but like for the mormons?!" "yes sir!" "oh! i want to be a member sooo bad!" YOURE KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!! so we ran over and got down to business. turns out our new friend had ran into a couple missionaries before on the street but has never been to church or taken lessons..but he did some research online and wants in. lately we have been praying for prepared people to find us and let me tell yall...ITS WORKING! and our new friend's name says it all...we are so "FORTUNATE"!!

*so remember joseph? the guy walking his dog that we decided to talk to late one night before heading out? so we finally got to have a sit down lesson with him and it was UNREAL!!! he told us that he knew "God set me up! im supposed to talk with yall....i was just standing outside and God told me to walk my dogs...i never walk my dogs...but i did and then i saw yall and was like 'aww man' but then you went the other way...but then in a couple minutes i heard one of yall say 'hello!' and i just laughed..God set me up!" it was the coolest to hear his side of the story and really see God's hand in the work...its too perfectly orchestrated to be our work...Heavenly Father "sets us up" and if we are obedient and listen to the spirit--we will have success! Joseph told us that God also informed him he needs to read the Book of Mormon. and when i told him we have a modern day prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, jospeh chuckled to himself and said "God told me i need to listen to what this man has to say." guys. the Lord prepares hearts. promise!!!!

*so ponderizing...I LOVE IT! this week i ponderized  3 Nephi 5:13. i went through and studied the footnotes/certain words and phrases and this is the end result (the stuff in parenthesizes are my thoughts/studies): "Behold (hey! check this out! im about to tell you something important), I am a disciple (pupil; learner; follower) of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called (commanded; privileged) of him to declare (boldly testify; preach; proclaim; tell all) his word (the truth; the good news; God's commandments and teachings) among his people (the elect; prepared; those willing to enter into a covenant), that they might have everlasting life (eternal happiness/bliss; immortality; glory; salvation)." HOW GREAT IS MY CALLING?!?!?!

*oh! another story that reminds me of a classic article in the "Friend" or something..but our car battery kept dying..so we would just get it jumped by people whenever we needed to..but then we made the unwise decision to try to visit an investigator that lives in the boonies.......they werent home...and neither was anyone else within a 10 mile radius...and the car wouldnt start....but we prayed and after several attempts God blessed us and we made it home safe and sound!! (dont worry...we got our battery changed haha)

God is sooo sooo good! have a blessed week! love yall!

THE BERG #16

WAS CONFERENCE MARAVILLOSA OR WHAT?!?!?!?!
seriously best weekend EVER!!! we had the amazing opportunity to take on conference a little differently this time around...we actually watched it in investigators homes! we house hopped almost every session and in-between sessions went to other investigators homes to make sure they had it qued up and ready to go at their homes! IT WAS AWESOME!! they all loved it and the spirit was felt BIG TIME! mom asked if i had any good food for conference...holy heavens was i spoiled!!!!! saturday, our dear friend mandi made us pork loins and rice with an apple/raisin maple dessert thing...yum!! sunday we had a tea party (herbal of course) with scones and salmon and cucumber and pear/balsamic/brie finger sandwiches with our friend from britain and his family, AND THEN homemade chili and salad and brownies and ice cream from our member!! people are beautifully kind and too generous!!! i was physically fed while i spiritually feasted!! needless to say it was a FULLy enjoyed weekend ;)
i really enjoyed president uchtdorfs talk. especially the quote he used in the beginning "tell a man there are a trillion stars in the sky and he'll believe it. tell a man there is wet paint on the wall and he will touch it just to be sure.." it hit home for more reasons than one...first off we have several investigators and a less active as well that are looking to "prove" the gospel is true..or they are wanting crazy deep outlandish solutions for their problems rather than the standard "primary answers". i also find myself looking for crazy big changes i need to make in order to improve..rather than recognizing its the little things i need to be consistent with in order to continue my progression :)
hmm what else...OH MY HEAVENS!! last sunday i made a commitment with the Lord that i would open my mouth and talk with everyone this week even if the situation seemed painfully awkward....satan thought he was funny and made every possible situation arise!! if i hadnt promised the Lord to talk with everyone--we would be a couple investigators short ;) some casual examples.....
the man at the gate to let us into a gated community...awkward because i had initially tried to ride on the coat-tails of a different car to enter the gate because we didnt know the code...when the little gate comes slamming down-just missing the hood of our car...we then had to back out and go into the "guest lane" where he just shook his head and laughed as he jotted down our info haha....already red-faced for causing quite the scene i was ready to jet outta there...but i slapped a smile on my face and explained that we were his missionaries and we would love to teach him about Jesus Christ.. he goes "for free?!?" haha and proceeded to give us his info haha

kid walking down the street--we are driving. we wave as we pass and he gives us a huge wave back...we decide we have to turn around and talk to him but then have this struggle of "are we going to look like stalkers?!?!" but we got over it and turned around, pulled to the side of the road, and rolled down the windows and gave him a pamphlet haha WORTH IT

walking to our car and see a man walking his dog. he is beyond where our car is parked so it wouldnt be "on the way casual hello oh how ya doing?" and it was dark outside so i felt justified in walking straight to the car...but then i remembered the promise...turns out joseph is a sweet christian man with three daughters that would love to hear more about his Lord and Savior!!!
I LOVE TALKING TO EVERYONE AND THEIR DOG!!!!!!!!
oh heavens remind me to tell yall about the ndukwe family from nigeria..they are amazing! but im running short on time and still have some pictures for yall!

THE BERG #15

why hello lovelies!!! i wanna get straight to the good stuff...
so i was studying repentance, and the atonement, and more specifically grace and i was having a rough time with it...again...i swear ive studied and "got it" but then i forget and confuse myself...i was mostly confused with grace and how it works exactly...so i decided to take it and put it into a context i CAN wrap my brain around...i pray that the spirit will help me express my thoughts in a coherent manner ;)

so i love dancing right? so i will use dancing to explain how i understand grace....
ok.

so in order to get ready for a performance, there are hours and hours or practice and rehearsal to learn the steps and be familiar with the beats etc so that when the performance comes, its almost effortless..its beautiful..and you can just SHINE on stage! even though practice takes a lot of time and effort, every time you make a mis-step, or go off-beat, the practice and correction allows you to grow stronger and improve. muscles are strengthened and stretched, movements are memorized and mastered, and before you know it you are performing with ease and fluidity...
for someone who has not come to practice and simply shows up for the performance,,will find themselves awkardly flailing on stage..feeling very out of place..and would much rather get off stage..

the parents watching their children perform--both the practiced and the unpracticed--love their children equally. have given them equal chance for their success (in paying for classes etc) but one child has taken advantage of the opportunity, and is glorious!!

similarly, God has given us all equal chance to return and live in his presence. Jesus Christ paid the price. it is up to us whether or not we take advantage of the opportunity..for those that practice and practice, or in other words, try to live the commandments and keep covenants, will make mistakes--of course--but with each mistakes comes grace. which strengthens us, stretches us, enables us, to improve and feel more comfortable with christlike behavior. it transforms us from awkward flailers to marvelous dancers...aka grace transforms us from corruptible sinners to glorious angels! its like Brad Wilcox says in his talk "His Grace is Sufficient"...we arent EARNING heaven...we are LEARNING heaven...so when we die, we are comfortable in Gods presence and deserve celestial glory! we know the steps, we feel the beat, and we become flawless at the routine ;)

for those who think they can slide through life without trying to repent and change and follow the commandments..lose out on a lot of grace--first off-- and secondly, since they havent "learned heaven" they will feel awkard and out of place in God's presence and want to GET OUT.
my prayer is that we all keep practicing-despite the many mistakes we make--allow christ's grace to enable us--and ultimately be made flawless/glorious in Gods presence :)
did that make sense??? haha

anyway...along with that epiphany this week...more awesome stuff happened!!! including three exchanges (i got to go to Victoria!!! which is like two hours away from rosenberg...#roadtrip!), saw a parade..(kicking off the fort bend county fair--which we are going to today!!), held two snakes, and a geico!! bonded with some horses..started teaching a man from england..AKA I LOVE MISSIONARY WORK. FOR REAL. ITS THE BOMB!!! hope yall enjoy the pics ;)
ps SOOO STOKED FOR GENERAL CONFERENCE!!!
